------- Additional Comments From acedit AT armory.com 2006-04-08 16:01 -------
The sdl spell appears to set a bunch of variables in CONFIGURE and then never
use them anywhere. Perhaps you forgot to check something in.

If I cast sdl[0], modify the /etc/sysconfig/sdl and /etc/profile.d/sdl.sh
files
I get prompted as expected.

>From reading your description are you saying that the spell installs
>different
versions of the config file based on user options? If so then the premise is
flawed. The user hasnt modified the config file, its the same as the one the
spell installed last time, and by definition not modified. It might be
different
from the one the spell is planning on installing but that doesnt matter.

The kdebase example seems to be completely unrelated. I dont have kdebase
installed or any real desire to install it (and its dependencies). If you'd
like
me to further investigate that particular issue please provide more
information
and I'll be happy to dig into it more. I'll speculate on what the problem is
more likely though. The files could be symlinked together or werent *actually*
changed (this is defined by the md5sum matching in the md5 log). Theres also a
very real possibility the kde build system overwrote the file in INSTALL
before
install_config_file was run thus making the file appear to not be changed.
Simple dummy spells are often the best way to help demonstrate the problems.
Since I have build the spell a bunch of times to make sure that it really does
work, testing on kdebase is really not an option.

Im going to leave this open for now on good faith that there is some problem
but
it wasnt clearly articulated or I made some wrong guesses on what the sdl
spell
is doing.

I'll also plug stage-root, with it even if the kde build system is being dumb,
it wont affect the live system.

[0] sdl fails to build if directfb is an enabled optional depends
