Andrew,
Why can't files always be expected to run from "/"? That's where most
everything
is tracked anyway, right?
We can devotedly replace INSTALL_ROOT in every BUILD with TRACK_ROOT, but my
question is different. We've been coding to a "feature" that doesn't work (and
now have 2,000+ spells uselessly altered), and spending a lot of effort on it.
Now, we are replacing it with different feature, which -- surprise -- may
actually work, but would it be useful?

Also, and that's for everyone, let me ask you this. If --with-xyz=DIR is used
in
DEPENDS, do I use TRACK_ROOT or INSTALL_ROOT in there? Doesn't it depend on
whether this spell needs that other dependency during compile or run time?
Using
TRACK_ROOT would mean "run-time," INSTALL_ROOT -- "compile-time," but what if
it's both?
