Wow!!! A lot sure happened in the short time since I've posted this :)

I understand that we're essentially doing the job of the application writers
here, but like Arwed said I don't see a way around this. Other distributions
have done this, and I like to think ours compares favorably against theirs.

I also like Arwed's idea of using .desktop files because it's the
freedesktop.org's standard. I can only imagine more and more desktop
environments moving to this standard, so even if we just used .desktop files I
think we'd certainly take care of a majority. Not to mention I'm sure any
open
source project out there would easily accept such a simple addition as a
.desktop file (and it might raise awareness too!).

Staring with the old MENU entries sounds like an excellent idea as well: let's
leverage the work done by past gurus! Move the MENU entries to .desktop
files,
then remove the MENU entries when sorcery support for .desktop moves into
stable
sorcery.

So how should we proceed? Start creating .desktop files for every spell we
come
accross that we feel needs one? Then file a bug against that spell including
the .desktop file?

(I'm glad I'm not the only one interested in this)
