Summary: /var/state/sorcery/packages is way too volatile...
Product: Sorcery
Version: Devel
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: Cast
AssignedTo: sm-sorcery-bugs AT lists.ibiblio.org
ReportedBy: tusker AT tusker.org
Recently I have been having problems with my /var/state/sorcery/packages...
It was losing packages randomly, and would reset back to nothingness pretty
regularly over the last few days...
This, I finally found out, was because /var/ was very low on diskspace, and
sometimes, the packages file would be trashed, and then cast and sorcery
would
have no way of knowing what was installed on the system anymore...
packages needs to have some mechanism to ensure it doesn't get trashed too
easily... perhaps having some kind of "RCS/Revision Control System" in place,
so that the last 5 versions of the file exists...
Another thing that could be done is space checks on the partitions that are
crucial to sorcery's safe operation, such
as /var/lib/sorcery, /var/state/sorcery, etc etc...
Let me know if you need any further information...
