Spells are to be cast:
---------------------------
coreutils

Do you want to cast these spells? [y]

the line creating those errors is in codex_cache_spell_lookup():
SECTION=`grep "^$spell " -m 1 $1/$SPELL_INDEX_FILE | cut -d' ' -f2`

changing that to
SECTION=`grep -m 1 "^$spell " $1/$SPELL_INDEX_FILE | cut -d' ' -f2`

fixes it, but i have no idea why it happens (and why it happens now, ages
after
that line got written)
