You can do both, use the seperate alsa-driver spell or use the version
that comes with the kernel, though the alsa-driver spell is probably
more up to date most of the time (alsa 1.0.1 drivers just got merged
into 2.6.1-mm4). If the drivers in the kernel work for you, i'd suggest
using those (that's what i do), the alsa-driver spell is mostly
interesting on kernel 2.6 if there were bugs in a driver that are fixed
faster in the alsa-driver package than in the kernel.
The spells don't need any modification, as nothing depends on
alsa-driver.
