those patches were third party, not supported by SUN.

I just looked on the website, apparently the new version now needs unixODBC
and ALSA. I could understand unixODBC being a requirement but i hope i don't
have to start using alsa just to update java.
The build system seems fairly similar, from a quick peak at the docs.
pity I spent so much time on the old version so recently.
