Hello all,
I was just patching up libs/libuta to compile with gcc 3.3 and figured I'd
submit the patch to their SF buglist (not that they'll get to it, hasn't seen
much activity since sometime in 2001 or so :() so that is can be included in
the next release.
I would like any and all patches to source code to be submitted to the proper
site upstream (a.k.a. the author/project site) whenever possible, this way we
can give back (and not have to patch again ;)) to the community from which we
use. Now, I don't expect you to subscribe to every mailing list for every
package in your section (or others') to watch for these patches, but to submit
through a bug-tracking system if possible, then their developer/main mailing
list after that, then at least watch (through archives if you want to) for
responses. If it's already known and fixed, that's good, we don't have to
worry about it. Otherwise, try to get them to include it (usually posting is
enough) so that we don't have to continue to patch other people's software.
Thoughts?
