I swear this is my last one ;>)

After traversing to kernel 2.6.0 and doing the /dev thing,
I am now completely without sound and receive the same usual
message from KDE about /dev/dsp not being around.

I took some advice to add the following to /etc/devfsd.conf:

#sound fix
REGISTER sound/.* PERMISSIONS root.audio 660

But this made no difference.

Someone else said to re-compile alsa-driver. When I try to do
this (with /usr/src/linux pointing to 2.6.0 or 2.4.20) I get
the following error:

Compile log for alsa-driver 0.9.5 Built on Sun Jul 20 16:06:28 UTC
2003
Using gcc version: 3.3
FATAL: Module soundcore not found.

Upon doing: locate soundcore
I get:

/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/sound/soundcore.o
/usr/src/linux-2.4.20/drivers/sound/soundcore.o
/usr/src/linux-2.6.0-test1/sound/soundcore.o
/usr/src/linux-2.6.0-test1/sound/.soundcore.o.cmd

Am looking for suggestions?

Craig
