Well, yes and no. As far as I remember (I'm not at home to check right
now) jed installs two binaries, xjed and jed. jed is textmode and
should do fine without Xft2, but xjed is for X, and may link to Xft2
(which it does if it is installed).

So removing the dependancy would be wrong (especially since it works
without configure options, in other words if Xft2 is installed jed WILL
depend on it).

The correct solution would IMHO be to find the options to turn Xft2
support on AND off explicitly, and add those. Perhaps also an option
to build only jed?
