On a new system (X hasn't been successfully installed yet) I can't get X to build.

Kernel 2.5.19
sorcery 0.8.2
gcc 3.2
running devel
1st, 3rd, 5th, P3 optimizations on

problem:

make[3]: Entering directory `/usr/src/xc/lib/Xft`
flex -l xftlex.l
sed `s/yy/XftConfig/g` lex.yy.c | sed `s/__REALLY_YY__/yy/` > xftlex.c && rm -f lex.yy.c
bison -y -d xftgram.y
xftgram.y:168.8: parse error, unexpected ":", expecting ";" or "|"
xftgram.y:169.3-6 $$ of `matrix' has no dclared type
make[3]: *** [xftgram.c] Error 1
...

(note, the above is copied by hand but looks to be a good match for the real error).

I've tried compiling with optimizations off, no effect.
I've rebuilt sed, bison, and flex with optimizations off.
I'm about to try gcc/glibc with optimizations off but I don't really think that is the problem.

Any help is appreciated.
