Howdy All!

Wanted to let you know what is happening and what is expected of you during
the coming testing period from 10 October up to 24 October. Also will explain
the details of the move from Test Grimoire -> Stable Grimoire and freeze for
release candidate one.

10 October: (Devel Grimoire Freeze)

Tony will pull the last changes from devel grimoire into the test grimoire.
From this point on the devel grimoire remains available for updates, new
spells and just plain normal development but will not be pulled into test
until further notice.

A testing period of two weeks (10 Oct - 24 Oct) will commence. This will be
bug hunting, md5 fixes, formating to standards as described in the guru
handbook, license adjustments, etc...
Any version bumps must be cleared with and explanation e-mail by me or Eric
Sandall... this is to prevent any shake-ups due to critical spells being
updated (no list of spells that will be excluded from versioning, but you can
imagine that gcc will no longer be bumped!).

Any cvs users will provide changes to me in the form of an email overview of
the cvs spells/files that I can pull into test to apply fixes. This is only
until 1.0 is released and then there will be development changes that Ryan
will explain at that time.

Perforce users can sync the test directory to their machines and work
straight on their sections. Just add a line such as my example below to your
'p4 client' in the View section:

//sgl/test/grimoire/<section>... //<Client>/test-grimoire/<your-section>...

I would also like all users and guru's to move to the test grimoire by
adjusting your installation to pull from the correct test directory. This can
be done by changing or adding the following line to your
/etc/sorcery/local/config:

CODEX_URL:http://codex.sourcemage.org/devel-grimoire

with a "scribe update" you should then pull the test grimoire into the codex
dir and it will be called "grimoire".

Please file all bugs against a specific spell from this point on to "test
grimoire" as these will have priority above devel grimoire bugs.

We have two weeks in which I expect complete compliance with all MD5,
LICENSE, History and guru handbook standards. It is also critical that all
source url's are working as we need to provide source mirroring after this
testing period. A 'zero' bug count is also the target for test grimoire by
the 24th of October.

24 October: (Test Grimoire Freeze - rc1)

Tony will pull the test grimoire into stable. This will be our rc1 and
included on the ISO for testing. At this point all source tarballs will need
to be mirrored (where?) for testing with the rc1 version of Source Mage.

At this point the Test Grimoire will function as our Devel version that will
be tested, updated and fixed for 1.x releases every two months (that's the
target).

The Devel Grimoire will be considered a volitile playground for testing any
and all your spells, sorcery and updates. Anyone using this grimoire will no
longer be supported 100%, use at your own risk. The guru's will be
responsible for the Test Grimoire being the Grimoire where I receive the
weekly update reports from. So, when your spell updates hit the Test
Grimoire, then I want to receive a weekly report in my mailbox.

I will be updating the guru handbook sometime along this path, but before the
24th of October to reflect these changes.

Any and all questions should be pointed straight to me and I wish you lots of
fun with the coming weeks as we approach the 1.0 release.

Finally, I would like to thank you all for the great work you have been
providing and say that I have enjoyed the progress we have made up to now. In
a few more weeks it will all prove to have been worth while... ;-)
