I had a similar problem today, on a fresh install from iso 0.9.6.3.

I installed the base system as always (the 7th server under SMGL at my office
:)
). After the first boot, I updated sorcery, the stable grimoire, and added the
test grimoire.

"sorcery rebuild" failed on gcc, with ld segfaulting (signal 11), on building
libiberty.a

It seems like binutils is the source of the problem (version 2.17 installed,
2.18 in test grimoire). I got gcc, g++, glibc, binutils and libidn already
casted spells from the cache on another server, then "resurrected" these
spells
on the new server.

I had then to recompile the same spells before doing everything else, or all
spells complained about no compiler present, or /lib/cpp no working correctly.

And then the problem was totally solved.

Really weird problem, I didn't had same issue with 0.9.3, 0.9.4 and 0.9.6
isos.
