So what's the status on this?
I don't see madplay being a general drop-in for MPG123.
Just see the "-s" option: It means "write to stdout" for mpg123, but "start
time" for madplay.
1. Does ecasound actually _require_ mpg123? And even then, it would be a
runtime requirement and not build time.
So in any case, the dependency should be optional (?).
2. Would it make sense, then, to add an optional dep on madplay?
...and on every other possible tool to decode mp3s...
3. Why not use mpg123 - it's more than twice as fast at decoding mp3? ;-)
OK, I cannot have an objective view on point 3 (as mpg123 maintainer).

Francisco, your main grief is that there is a forced dependency on mpg123
which you don't want to have installed since you use madplay, right?
So, making it optional should help...
