Summary: libx11: "loadable i18n modules" is broken, should not be
offered
Product: Codex
Version: test grimoire
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: xorg-modular
AssignedTo: sm-grimoire-bugs AT lists.ibiblio.org
ReportedBy: timothee.lecomte AT ens.fr
I have spent almost a whole day debugging an issue I have been experiencing
for
weeks: the "dead keys" of my french-layout keyboard (like ^ or ") were working
like "alive keys" in xterm, urxvt and all kde apps, so that I could not get
ê,
ï, ô, etc. but I got ^e, "i, ^o, etc. instead.
It turned out that it is comes from non-working "X Input Method", and finally
this problem itself comes from libx11, where the option
"--enable-loadable-i18n"
is broken for UTF-8 locales.
See this mail for reference:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2006-July/016861.html
(there is also a bug report - #8144 on fd.org, but given the above message, I
guess it's not worth patching)
In summary, the libx11 spell should not offer to enable "loadable i18n
modules",
but let it as the default, i.e. disabled.
