don't forget elinks. though if it's going to get looked for by binary name we
may want to consider asking in the elinks spells if a links symlink should be
created and conflict with links if so.

For now I'll just add the ones that docbook-utils says it can use. Others can
add more 'compatible' options (e.g. elinks) as they test them.

Also, with the 'option' to link elinks to 'lynx' or 'links' (more likely the
latter) we'd either have to make the link and add some conflicts or elinks
couldn't provide HTML_TO_TEXT for docbook-utils (until Bug #6811 is finished).

(Sorry, added comment to Bug #9601 instead of this bug)

Well, FWIW, elinks *is* links as much as twibright is. links is dead for
future
development, it forked into elinks (steady ongoing development),
links2/twibright (image support and otherwise slow development), and
links-hacked (combining elinks and twibright back together again, sort of).

The thing is that any of these can provide the actual function HTML_TO_TEXT
with
or without a symlink to let them get called as links or lynx or w3m. That
docbook-utils also wants the thing that provides that function to be called
something specific seems to me to be an extra problem. Otherwise we're saying
HTML_TO_TEXT means "can convert html to text via one of exactly
/usr/bin/{lynx,links,w3m}". Is that what we want for our "generic"
providers?

Is it an option to patch this script ourselves to be able to use any of the
providers of HTML_TO_TEXT we offer, via whatever their main binary is, and try
to get upstream to include that patch?

To complicate this further, mutt's about to start depending on either lynx or
w3m (but not links) to build its docs.

Methinks the upstreams need to get a better grip on this...

I'd rather we patch docbook-utils (and send that upstream) to support elinks
(if
elinks works). For now I've just added support for links, links-twibright,
lynx,
and w3m.

Change #66652 for devel.
Change #66654 for test.
Change #66657 for stable-rc/0.2.
