glibc-kernel-headers:20060415:installed:deprecated
could this be the cause of the error?

I don't have it, but then it errored out somewhere else:
/lib/modules/2.6.16.20/build/include/asm/rwsem.h: In function '__down_read':
/lib/modules/2.6.16.20/build/include/asm/rwsem.h:105: error: syntax error
before 'KBUILD_BASENAME'

Checked the site and found this old thing:
2005-11-26 We're currently in the process of porting the 2.5 release to Linux
2.6. We expect to have a first version completed in the next weeks, although
not all interfaces will be supported in the first release for 2.6 kernels.

So this only works on older kernels. Even subdepends can't save this (it is
possible to do it, but we were encuraged not to, since there could be
conflicts). What to do? Bail out a bit more gracefully if linux is over 2.4?
