------- Additional Comments From jblosser-smgl AT firinn.org 2005-10-27 16:46

We talked this out on IRC and noted that the main problem is not scripts that
we
create for our own stuff, it's upstream daemons that we're making or modifying
or installing init scripts for. Sticking an smgl- in front of those is not
useful to users and isn't common among other distributions. I believe the
last
proposal made which everyone seemed to agree to was to only use the smgl-
prefix
for our own, distro-specific scripts. For vendor daemons without an assigned
lanana name or provided init script, we ask the vendor what name to use, then
fall back to what seems common among other distributions of the same package,
then fall back to whatever seems obvious.

Anyone object to this approach?

PS: I think it's a big aggressive to declare "one init script per daemon".
While it usually makes sense to do it that way, that is better decided at a
package level.
