Summary: why does bash install /etc/profile in FINAL?
Product: Codex
Version: stable grimoire
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: shell-term-fm
AssignedTo: sm-grimoire-bugs AT lists.ibiblio.org
ReportedBy: BearPerson AT gmx.net

Just a request for clarification / reconsideration. I can work around it if I
need to.
Bash installs /etc/profile and pals in FINAL. This has the one and only
function
that those files don't get tracked and thus don't get reaped or included in
the
cache tarball.
However, nobody will ever dispel bash, will they? The only dispel will be
during
an update, and well, when I never changed my /etc/profile (in which case it
does
get reaped, if it's changed it won't be) I'll want an updated version in there
too. For the ISOs I'd like to have those files inside the cache tarball, so
that
I can easily install a nice and comfortable system.
So I would basically like to request that either these instructions be moved
from FINAL to INSTALL, or that someone enlightens me about the historical
reasons why this is done in INSTALL.
Thanks.
