Although it may be a bit late for a speech-type-thing, here goes anyway :)

I've been in this position for a year. Although I'm not as technically
savvy (in the bash code that is the installer, I mean), I feel that I
have been able to steer the Cauldron Team fairly well. I've not been
very pushy, as we've only one really active person working on the Team.
I feel that having something work and work correctly is more important
than a set release date. Karsten has graciously volunteered his time and
I have no right to demand more than he offers. I do however, prioritize
what needs to be done, usually after discussing it with whom most of the
work involves (right now, that's really only Karsten :)

I believe I'm an active member of the SMGL community. I loiter in IRC
always, and I try to help out with whatever, whenever I can. I've
recently tried another Linux distro, OpenSUSe, and was sorely
disappointed. I just couldn't accept not being able to configure all of
my system. Things changed from the upstream default drove me crazy.
Because of these and many other reasons, I do not see myself leaving
SMGL for a different distro. There may be times when I find myself in
disagreement with someone else, but that's a good thing. If we were a
single minded organization, things would be quite boring and I think
that there'd be significantly less innovation. In summary, it's going to
take something dramatic to force me to leave SMGL. I'm going to be
around for quite a while.

To the voters: this is your opportunity to decide who will lead the
cauldron team. To decide who will choose which bugs to fix and which
bugs to clobber. One of my long term goals is to have the install
process be completely automated. Get the config via TFTP, Floppy, USB
stick, whatever. That's just a long term goal, short term is to make the
thing easy to use, easy to update, and easy to generate. I have
absolutely no desire to introduce a graphical frontend to the installer;
it's simply not necessary. I'm also very keen on keeping our installer
working in xen. Right now, afaict, Source Mage is the only distro that
you can install in xen, without having to use qemu or something else to
create the image. That's because we don't rely on any patches to our
kernel for the install. We don't use any scary, fancy initrd voodoo. I'd
like to keep it that way. Some of you may go, "Wait, at one point you
said you'd like to use unionfs on the ISO!" And yes, I did say that. But
I can change my mind and I have. Others have enlightened me in that
aspect (whether by brute force or words.)

Those that are new to the distro, I hope you know a bit more about me
now. Those that have been here a while, I hope I haven't invented any
new information ;)

Progress isn't made by early risers. It's made by lazy men trying to
find easier ways to do something.
