Normally this should work, we still have the rule for that :

BUS=="usb", KERNEL=="lp[0-9]*", NAME="usb/%k", GROUP="lp", MODE="0660"

Could you please test with udevmonitor/udevtest to see if it uses this
one ? We have a lot of new rules, maybe there is a conflict somewhere.

I do have a USB printer but not on my SMGL test box, I will try to check
that tonight...
