Did you try different xine-lib frontends (e.g gxine or totem)?
A segmentation fault can essentially be anything, so without additional
debugging there's no way to say what's wrong. Try running it in gdb and
get a backtrace:
gdb xine
> run
... wait until it segfaults
> bt
