With help from ruskie today, I installed xorg-modular and was able to
get it up and running.
Overall the installation went very smoothly. A few of the default
selections for options could be better and I think that ruskie has
fixed most of them already. In particular you need to select to
build xorg-server and select to build with setuid. You also have to
remember to separately cast the drivers that you need. In my case
vmware (video driver), keyboard, mouse.
Getting the fonts working correctly took a little bit of work since
you have to manually select which font spells to cast, but it seems to
be okay now, but not quite optimal.
In order to get xorg-modular working with xfce4-profile, I had to add
the following libs to the default xorg-server build:
libxrender
libxrandr
libxinerama
libxcursor
libxfixes
iceauth
sessreg (not sure if needed or not)
libxft
So of these would probably be pulled in by DEPENDS if I had cast them
in a different order. The biggest problem I have right now is with the
location of iceauth. Xorg-6.90 installs the file in /usr/X11R6/bin and
the spell iceauth installs to /usr/bin. As far as I can tell
libxfce4mcs when establishing the session can't find iceauth unless I
put a copy in /usr/X11R6/bin. I am sure there is a way, I just haven't
figured it out yet.
I will keep tweaking with it over the next few days. Great job by
CuZnDragon and ruskie getting it this far.
