Hi everyone,

as some of you may know the next X.org release will be a double release
6.9 and 7.0. Both will include the same source code. 6.9 will use the
known imake build system that xfree and xorg always used. 7.0 will be a
set of split tarballs using autotools as build system.
I believe the best plan for us is to go for 6.9 first, as that will work
with the ususual configuration changes with our current spell setup.

Eventually we'll want to switch to the modular release, as that follows
our motto of choice and minimal hard dependencies best. This switch will
be a quite big change, affecting big parts of all grimoires.
I'm looking for volunteers to start work on this. My suggestion for that
would be to create a perforce branch for it to first get all the spells
done for the modular release and then start work on a new set of
providers/dependencies for the various parts. With such a branch several
people can work on it together.
Of course all current developers are welcome to volunteer for this, but
I'm also looking for new members. This being a totally seperate
development line gives new contributors a safety net as it won't be in
use by many people, so any possible errors won't have bad consequences.

I don't want to give a timeframe for this right now, this will depend on
how many people volunteer to work on it and what possible problems
they'll see.

Additional information can be found in the freedesktop.org X wiki. A
good starting point is the modularization proposal[1] and the modular
developers guide[2].
