Can you lookup the server log and see what happens there? Also, what network
devices are in between each of the machines and the server?

Apparently, what's happening is that the userauth_kbdint is for some reason or another, closing the socket before the password authentication can be used (at least in my case). However, this is a very odd bug. I've compiled the same source code on two machines. One machine exhibits this behavior (saturn, 10.195.16.8) and one doesn't (secon, 10.195.16.3). Both machines are using the same version of SSL (
OpenSSH_4.0p1, OpenSSL 0.9.7e 25 Oct 2004 ), so it's not a problem with SSL. I think some sort of race condition is being met, but the code for the auth methods is thick, and would need the look of a core developer to find the problem. Let me know if this helps any.
