Not possible, same as gcc that needs a C compiler for bootstrapping, the
build toolchain is dependant on itself.
The /usr/bin/ar disappearance happened here too and i tracked it down to
pnet doing some odd stuff causing it to get tracked, but that got fixed
ten days ago. To see what spell caused it, try greeping for /usr/bin/ar
in your install logs.
