For the mplayerplug-in, check your config in
~/.mplayer/mplayerplug-in.conf, it really should work, make sure the
config has a reasonable cachesize (cachesize=256 is mine).
You can try gxine, that includes a mozilla plugin, though i haven't
tried it recently.
