I like /srv too, and like someone else on this list I associate /media with movies and
music. In fact, when I first saw /media I thought "that's a great idea: often the
users on the same desktop system like to share media, so have a public directory for
it"... then I read what it was.

However, I do see an advantage to being FHS compliant... programs might look
to /media/cdrom for instance, but then we could just symlink /srv to /mnt and
find it there.

My vote then, for our default setup, is to add the /srv directory and use it
as intended, and symlink the /media directory to /mnt. That way we're FHS
compliant and users who are sticky about it and easily delete the symlink or
replace it with an actual directory. (Hmm... does that mean that fstab
should point to /media/cdrom by default?)

I thought this was more a vote as to what to recommend to FHS for the updated fhs standard?

For me, I'm against the /media directory. I'm hesitant on the /srv directory.
