The latest changes to the linux spell regarding HOST variable, seem to cause
problems
I just tried to build linux-2.4.21-rc4 and got the following errors

it appears that I need a symlink for i686-pc-linux-gnu-ld
likewise for i686-pc-linux-gnu-ar
