Anyway, on the laptop I'll stay on Xfree 4.2 - 4.3 has
no longer support for SIS DRI - nobody converted it to
mesa4... :(

So, until someone does indeed convert it, I'm stuck
with xfree 4.2...

I'm not using KDE, so i can't confirm this specific bug (and bugs in the
Render acceleration of NVidia seem to be pretty random), but the
RenderAccel feature of the NVidia drivers is experimental. I had no X
freezes until now that i could track down to this option, but if you
want stability, i would recommend leaving the option on false.

I have been having a similar problem which sounds similar to what you are
experiencing. My system will freeze when viewing certain websites in
konqueror or selecting truetype fonts in koffice and openoffice. Thanks to
your advice I have now disabled RenderAccel, and the problems seem to have
disappeared. Thanks
