It's caused by Xft2. Gtk2 uses Xft2, and when it prints checking for
XOpenDisplay in -lX11, it actually links against -lX11 -lXrender -lXft
-lfreetype. When the old freetype libs supplied by xfree are used, this
fails, since Xft needs the new freetype.

Howdy all,

yesterday I found on freshmeat handy tool named ms-sys.
Immediately I created a spell and submitted it to bugzilla.
Thanks to Eric Sandall we have it on devel grimoire already.

I think, it should be on install ISO too.
I very often have to remove lilo from MBR on several computers in
classroom and usually use MS DOS floppy for it (after linux is
destroyed).
I would like to use SMGL ISTALL/REPAIR ISO for this.

I know, we want to have our ISO as small as possible.
Should it be useful to have ms-sys on ISO for you ?
For me surely.

root@sourcemage:~# gaze what ms-sys
This is a Linux program for writing Microsoft compatible boot records.
The program does the same as Microsoft "fdisk /mbr" to a hard disk or
"sys d:"
to a floppy or FAT32 partition except that it does not copy any system
files, only the boot record is written.
