compare the date you installed xfree86 last and the UPDATED field in
the spell:

gaze installed |grep xfree86|cut -f2 -d:
gaze DETAILS xfree96|grep UPDATED|cut -f2 -d=

if the date on second command is the larger, then sorcery thinks you
need to update. you can either recast it just in case something changed
in the spell, or hack a new date into /var/state/sorcery/packages
