Jeremy,
I bet you will find that when you updated sorcery, the cast broke in the
middle and it went on to install parts of itself anyway... I had problems
with this when I was running sorcery stable, as my optimizations weren't
being used, and mplayer has compile problems if not compiled with at least
-O2.
I had more then one thing set in /etc/sorcery/local/config like
OPTIMIZATIONS="speedy combreloc strip". For some reason, none of my
optimizations were being used, and I had to back off to just one option,
OPTIMIZATIONS="speedy" to get it to work.
Do a "gaze compile MPlayer" and see if it dies with compile errors and
installs anyway.
Do a mplayer --version and gaze install MPlayer and see if the versions
match.
If you join the IRC channel it would be easier to help you diagnose the issue
in realtime...
