Linux kernel has a lot of deprecated stuff, sitting there for years
after assignment and before actual removal procedure.

That's just an example, but it shows, if it still exists, it might be
needed for someone with different systems than ours. And until it's
supported by upstream, it can take a place in our spell's config.

I don't see any problem with one extra optional dependency in the spell.

You probably got it wrong, which triggered this your mail.

SQLite and SQLite3 data storage drivers _ARE NOT_ mutually exclusive,
you can have them both, and use in different configs for example.
