I agree that supporting those configure options isn't useful.
Debugging and profiling can be turned on by the user with custom
CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS/LDFLAGS, we don't want every spell asking about them.
The option about static lib doesn't seem too useful to me either, why
would a user choose that (and why is it so important that it can't be
handled by adding custom configure flags)?
