I thought that was discussed earlier and that everybody agrees, but it seems that nothing has been discussed. The purpose is to publish a guideline document on the Wiki so that everybody will have reference material.

So, here are the points that need to be discussed:

- ISO FILENAME:
---------------

I think we should follow the convention smgl-0.8.0-i386.iso.bz2, smgl-0.8.0-i386.iso.bz2.md5sum and smgl-0.8.0-i386.iso.md5sum.

The file ending with ".iso.bz2" is a bz2 archive of the ".iso" file to save some disk space.

The file ending with ".iso.bz2.md5sum" should contain the output of md5sum on the .iso.bz2 file.

The file ending with ".iso.md5sum" is the output of md5sum run on the original ".iso" file.

The "-0.8.0" part should be the version number. "-pre#" should not be used. It must be 0.8.0 and next 0.8.1, 0.8.2 ... and next 0.9.0, 0.9.1 and so on.

The "-i386" is the architecture. There should be soon a "-ppc" version.

- ISO LOCATION:
---------------

In order for people to download the correct version, annoucement message should contain a full http link to the .iso.bz2 file. "latest" file are forbidden.

So, those link must be maintained over time, that's why moving file to either "older-i386-versions" or "older-ppc-versions" should NOT occur.

- LAST QUESTION:
----------------

I send the smgl-0.7.2-i386.iso to the Planéte Linux magazine and they included it in the CD set along with their magazine. Why this release is no longer on http://download.sourcemage.org???
