Ahoy,

More than nine months after they were recorded, we have finally put all of
the
recordings from our launch event online. You can browse them all here:
http://www.remixcommons.org/taxonomy/term/600

Most of the acts who played in the Rehearsal Room were recorded, and include
poetry, stories, jam sessions and a long Djembe African drum workshop, all
ripe for a remix.

Adrian Keefe, who very kindly did the recording on the night and then
mastered
them all for us, has also produced a fun remix of the night including most of
the recordings placed chronologically, so you can get a quick taste of how
the night sounded:

Recordings whose authors are registered on Remix Reading have been placed
under those authors' control, so if you find your recording up there you
should be able to edit the description. If yours is still owned by
"cc-import" let us know and we'll give you control.

The massive delay was a result of some very busy volunteers, lots of problems
with the web site (that should all now be fixed) and the code that we based
our web site on changing every few weeks, making it even more work! But the
web site now sports:
<*> ratings, so you can vote on your favourite works
<*> personal contact forms (edit your profile so people can email you)
<*> multiple files for each work
<*> automatic previews of small images
<*> free tagging (folksonomy) rather than our old genre system
<*> improved search, and lots of other small tweaks.

If you're an observant type you'll also notice that the site I linked to is
blue and called "Remix Commons". We're in the process of branching out into a
national network, with similar projects underway in Brighton, Deptford (East
London), Leeds and Milton Keynes. Get in touch if you live in any of these
places and want to get involved. If you're in Reading then have a look at our
new "localised" web site:
http://www.remixreading.org

Stay tuned for more news about Remix Commons and stuff happening in Reading,
including a fortnightly open media lab.

Regards,
Tom Chance
