- Subject: [piw] Shiitake mushroom workshop
- Date: Tue, 1 Mar 2005 17:11:06 -0500
Hi there everyone,
The Shady Grove Farm will be hosting a Shiitake Mushroom
Production Workshop in conjunction with NC A&T Sate University and the
Person County NC Cooperative Extension Service. The workshop is on March
26, 2005, from 8AM-5PM.
Come and learn all about shiitake mushrooms and their
production. Great for anyone who wants to learn more about mushroom
production on the home or farm scale. We will discuss resources, choosing
and cutting logs, spawn inoculation, storage of inoculates logs, and general
shiitake production. This is a hands on/working workshop. You
will drill logs, inoculate them with spawn and seal them with wax, and see logs
from past years in current production. A great experience. We will
process about 400 logs. This is an all day event, come prepared,
dress appropriately, bring gloves, and bring drinking
water
Dr. Omon Isikhuemhen from NC A&T State University will be on hand to talk about his program to help NC farmers get into mushroom production and potentially be a part of a Mushroom Growers Cooperative. The program gives shiitake mushroom spawn to farmers who agree to participate in the program. Lunch will be provided. The workshop is free. Yes free! |
