This is being sent to the NCSBA Chapter contacts for Danny Jaynes.
Dear Chapters:
In reviewing the history of the NCSBA looking for activities for our summer meetings, we noticed that a Bee Bowl competition for the Chapters was scheduled for a number of years. In keeping with tradition and activities we once enjoyed at our meetings, we’re going to revive this for the upcoming summer conference and centennial celebration in Winston-Salem this July. It will be as close to the old format as what is indicated in our historical records. When we started thinking about doing this, we spoke with Bill Sheppard. He was so excited about having a Bee Bowl and was very helpful in providing questions that were used back in those years. We were very saddened when Bill passed away knowing he would not be there as he wanted. No doubt Bill will be there in spirit.
Please consider entering a team in the Bee Bowl. Here are the rules and other information at the current time:
The Bee Bowl is scheduled for Thursday evening, July 13, starting at 7 PM. The moderator will be Dr. David R. Tarpy, NC State University Professor and Extension Apiculturist. There will be a panel to address controversial answers to questions, and we will have a recording secretary.
There will be a limit of eight teams, so the first eight Chapters that enter will be selected to participate (first-come/first-served). Send entries by email to Danny Jaynes at djaynes101 AT gmail.com. The cut-off for entries is June 26, 2017.
Each Chapter may have one team consisting of three members. They must be current members of both their Chapter and the NCSBA.
Each Chapter will be given a number to be selected in a random drawing to determine its position on the bracket (similar to a NCAA basketball tournament bracket).
Each round will have two teams competing. The first team to be questioned will be determined by a coin-toss. Each round will have nine questions, selected at random from a bank of questions at the Certified, Journeyman and Master level. Questions will be in three categories: Biology, Management and Industry.
The second and third rounds will have nine questions from Easy, Medium and Difficult categories.
There will be a sudden-death round in case of a tie. The first team to be questioned in this case will be determined by a coin-toss.
The winning team’s members will each be given a plaque. The winning Chapter will be awarded $500.
Final rules and procedures for the competition will be given to teams well in advance of the competition.
Thank you for your consideration.
Danny Jaynes
