Title: Meeting Minutes and Such
Here are my notes from December 20. If anyone knows how many of us there were at dinner, just let me know! (Is it important to know if we had a quorum?) Inge, could we get together sometime after January 1 so I can get some more instructions about posting minutes to the Wordpress site? Michele may want to come over too since she's my very good back-up. We also need to know where to find the "check-in" list that the Cooperative Extension folks want us to complete. Person County Beekeepers Association Minutes Date: November 15, 2012 Location: Person County Cooperative Extension, Room 165 Present: Mary Deitz presiding, Lynn Wilson recording, ___ members and 2 guests. PRESIDENT’S REPORT Mary thanks members for an exciting year with Association volunteers at Person County Ag Day, Personality, Farmer’s Market and State Fair (with lots of ribbons!) Mary reports that she will make a presentation for the Kiwanis Club in February. Calvin Hester offered to help. BEE SCHOOL Mary shared Bee School posters for members to post. Several members plan to retake the class. Lynn suggested that present members be introduced at classes that occur on regular club meeting nights to encourage new beekeepers to find mentors/partners for beekeeping, perhaps people who live near them or share goals, such as Certified Naturally Grown beekeeping. Mary asked Lynn to share this suggestion with Inge, as VP responsible for programs, so that a list of current members with addresses can be shared with participants. It could be marked, to show their interest in mentoring/partnering and include a brief statement about their own beekeeping goals. NEW LIFE MEMBERS Mary moved that Todd, Inge and Tim be given life memberships in the Person County Association in appreciation for all of their ongoing work for the Association. Lynn seconded, with a friendly amendment that Mary also be given a life membership for her significant work for the Club. Tom Savage seconded the amendment and the group approved the motion. MORE THANKS AND NEWS Lynn expressed appreciation for Tom and Linda Savage’s hospitality to the group for hosting honey extraction and wax crafts field days. Michele reported that she and her spouse have been invited to make a beekeeping presentation for Hyco 4-H group. Tom and Linda Savage reported that Jack Tapp has sold the retail end of his business. The new business will be located in Boone Square, possibly opening in January. Mary expressed appreciation to Kim Buchanan for setting up a Facebook page for the Association and encouraged members to check it out. MINUTES Carol requested that minutes go out right after meetings to help with preparations for the upcoming meeting. Lynn agreed to try to get minutes out by Monday following Thursday meetings. Last month’s meeting minutes were approved as posted. UPCOMING MEETINGS The next Association meeting is January 17 at 7 PM in the Person County Cooperative Extension Building and will coincide with the first evening of Bee School. Officers and anyone else who is interested will meet at 5:30 PM at LaCasina on January 17. The meeting adjourned for Christmas supper and gift exchange.
