It is important to realize that you are all the (a) link............... it is you who keep the good Doctors thoughts alive......not the writer of the article.

It's hard to educate anyone when interest isn't present. People have to stop and read and that's hard Percy might even be hard for those who dont want to stop and think on things.

Who really thinks now?

the journalist author just names names that have meaning to him..............names he remembers names that connect his thoughts( Historians being the worst)...........that is how thought works and perhaps memory too.

what is wonderful for me is that Dr Percy spoke to me. I looked over his shoulder and read his words and I was interested in many things he had to he to say.

It made a lot of sense and I tasted the mystery of life. AND sometimes... my moving mind makes use of his insights.

thank you,

Lauren Stacy Berdy

I am pulling this from memory, so I may not have it quite right, but I believe Eudora Welty said at Walker Percy's memorial service that the role of the physician and the novelist had this in common, that they both listened to the patient's heart and said, "Thou ailest here and here and here."

Inexplicably, Percy is not mentioned in this article from The
Guardian, a British periodical.

Prescribed reading: why medicine is good training for writing fiction,
