Hi Henry,

Thanks for getting this going. I just want to clarify a small point. When you say pages 1-70, is that meant to take us to the end of the first section titled "July Fourth"? Or a little past that into the first section of "July First"? Either way is fine.

I have a laughably old paperback copy. It's actually the first paperback that was published by FSG Noonday in 1971 that I found in a used bookstore after I gave away my nice Picador edition.

Rhonda is always an insightful commenter. Looking forward to her intro and questions.

Dear Slow Reading Group members:

Congratulations! The consensus for this year's summer reading is Love in the Ruins, Percy's third novel from 1971. We have 12 members this time, which is the most we have had before, so I'm certain we can look forward to some excellent discussion over the next six weeks

This coming week's reading will cover pages 1-70 in preparation for the first post of discussion questions on Friday, June 5 (a week from today). Thank you, Rhonda! We will discuss her questions through June 12.

Please know members are always welcome to join back in at any time if you fall behind in your reading. You may also re-engage previous questions from past weeks no matter what pages are being discussed.

If you don't have a copy of the novel, you can purchase the Picador version from Amazon for a nominal cost, though any book edition is fine. The Library of America version is available in hardback on Amazon also, but be prepared for a smaller text size.

I will send additional information in time, but this announcement should get everyone started. You can always contact me directly with any questions.

Happy Percy reading and discussion for this summer!

Best, Henry
