Bright green year round
Dense clusters of 5cm (2") long needles, sharp, pointed, arising from
short, stout spurs that are spiralling around the branches, except near
the tips of branches where they are borne individually.

Male cones: appearing summer to late fall, arising from the terminals of the spurs
Abundant, bright, banada-shaped, 5cm (2"), pale green shedding pollen in the fall

own short spurs
Upright, barrel shaped, 10cm (4"), bluish green, turning brown on
maturity. Disintegrating after 2 years, leaving a persisten stalk.

growing too large for the rock garden. Earliest known date of
cultivation 1866. Attractive as a wide-spreading low bush if controlled
by pruning, but if permitted to develop unchecked it tends to produce a
leader and lose it dwarf habit.

year. It makes a tiny hummock of blue-grey foliage and is best suited
