hello everyone,
So here's what's going on $-wise:
-We submitted a proposal to the Whole Systems Foundation yesterday. The
usually only give grants up to $5,000 (and we are requesting significantly
more), but anything is something. Plus, the more grants we receive, the more
validity our project has.
-I significantly edited the budget, and will send it out for review if you are
interested (let me know).
-I would like to show the Whole Systems Foundation a proof-of-concept, and
have asked Chad for a short paragraph on the status of PIW so far. Ideally in
non-technical terms so that reviewers of the proposal (most likely not
technically-oriented, at least not as much as Jim Fournier) can understand
it.
-And the SARE grant. Alas. I worked all night, typing and typing and
typing...and finally finished around 3:30pm yesterday. Had to get it to the
post office by 5pm in order to have it to Utah by 4pm today. And then, it
happened. My toner ran out. And there were pages and pages to print. But
instead of getting upset, I reflected. We are not ready for a SARE
grant...yet. We must have serious relationships with ag professionals and
extension agents, which we don't (to my knowledge). But. Writing the entire
grant and getting in touch with a few extension agents in the Western region,
I did realize the immense potential for bridging the Permaculture and USDA
agency communities. If we truly want to see Permaculture principles manifest
themselves in our common agricultural practices... More on this tip later,
but I'm pretty jazzed about discussing this with you, and applying next year.
-So now, we are waiting to hear from Whole Systems (we'll find out in
December), I'll be trying to build relationships with the ag professional
community (depending on what you all think, I'll start a thread about this),
and I'll also be applying to two other foundations - the Esmee Fairbairn in
the UK (thanks for the reference, Rich) and the Noble Foundation. Any other
ideas are welcome!
Although I never thought I'd enjoy grant writing (and believe me, I still
don't), I'm definitely getting more and more into it...
new moon waxing

Fixed mod_rewrite namespace issue ( note to self: document system setup,
2x ). Authenticated users should be able to add objects now.
