I'm beginning to think Wiki will offer some interesting possibilities
for database development:
1) full text searhing of all lines in every wiki page
a) Google can be used to search for keywords in text files that are
uploaded and exist in the wiki file upload directory (just another
ibiblio
directory - Google gives preferential treatment to indexing and
searches on
content at ibiblio.
b) Fuzzy searching of wiki page titles
2) access to editing pages should soon be password protected
and may be limited to a preassigned group, if desired
- .htaccess can also be used for this purpose
3) the wiki development team is working on a new file upload system
that attaches file uploads intended for use in a specific page to that page
(maybe this is some new database funtion) - this will allow for updates for
existing files with a history of previous versions kept
4) A plant database as an elaborately hyperlinked/wiki linked information tree
can be quickly and efficiently created, revised and kept updated. From the
users perspective
it could be easily searched and thoroughly browsed. Information contained
in search results
can be downloaded, saved to disk as a text file, emailed and images saved
to disk storage.
If users wants to add data to a specific page it can be done then and
there.
