Aloha,
Here are my initial ideas on some general specs for the project. They
are what they are in order to support greatest possible access,
including those with limited technological means and/or bandwidth.
1) The site will be fully legible and functional (though not
aesthetically identical) with *any* browser, including text-only
browsers such as lynx.
2) All dynamic content will be handled on the server side of
client-server transactions (e.g. no dependence on client-side
scripting).
3) All technologies used in development and delivery of the site will
be of the 'open source' variety, compliant with the Gnu Public License,
Open Source license or equivalent, and freely available to the general
public.
4) All HTML generated will conform to the W3C HTML 4.01 Transitional
specification.
That is, each generated HTML page will have this DOCTYPE declaration
and will pass validation based on this DOCTYPE declaration:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
