Thanks, Bynum. When I got your email I headed over. They were still on the ground. It was a very, very small swarm ~1lb. I knelt down and poked around a bit looking for the queen. About that time the bees decided it was time to head out so they lifted off the ground and started swirl in all directions. Fortunately, I had marked this queen last year with the help of CHS students. She was in the last layer to lift off of the grass so I was able to snag her and drop her into a cardboard nuc. Then I stood back and waited for the swarm to figure out that mama wasn’t with them. In about 20 minutes, they re-grouped on the nuc. I opened the door and they marched in. It took about 45 minutes from lift-off to re-settlement in the nuc. John Rintoul (919) 414-4071 (M)
