Day 9 brand new Beekeepers here. OCBA Bee Class of 2016!
We're feeding our new bees like crazy, and they are really drinking the 1:1 mixture in both of our hives. I'm attaching three pictures.
Notice the multitude of dead ants, and probably a dozen drowned bees in the sugar water. I could strain the ants off if necessary, but the dead bees are on the other side with the live bees.
Is there any reason to worry about the dead bees rotting away in the sugar water where the bees are trying to feed? They seem to be crowding things a little. I'm not sure how I would remove them without disrupting the feeding for quite a while. Also wondering if cleaning out ants is recommended.
Thanks, wise beekeeper friends!
