Rob,

To clarify, were the bees on the correct side of the screen or the incorrect side?

If on the incorrect side, you have a bee leak either around the edges of the screen or where the cover and the top edge of the feeder come together. A bit of hot glue can plug a leak in the screen. You may try a strip of foam insulating strip, like you would use around a door, on the top edge of the feeder if it is uneven and allowing bee access. Get creative. Whatever works, works.

If the bees are on the correct side, were they alive or dead?

If alive, there's probably no problem, the bees are just making vigorous use of the feeder in this bustery weather.

If dead, there may be too much space between the screen and the access wall, creating a morass that the bees can drown in. Using a pair of pliers, it should be a fairly simple matter to adjust the screen so the gap is a bit smaller, say around a half inch.

This morning I went to feed my bees in the hive and noticed a large knot of bees all together on the inside of the screen of the top feeder. It reminded me of a mini swarm. What could be the reasons for this and should I be concerned? Remedies?
