I should have mentioned that there ARE
bees that people can install and walk away from, then enjoy
watching them through the window from their armchair. There's
nothing wrong with that at all; in fact it would be fun and
educational. People just can't do that successfully with honey
bees, a non-native species that cannot survive more than 2 or 3
years, without appropriate care, due to modern parasites. I don't
understand why non-honey bee keeping isn't more popular, because
it makes a lot of sense. This topic is discussed in an article here.
